In a labour inspection on a construction site it is not enough to say “we clock in”. You have to be able to show, by person and by day, clock-ins, clock-outs and breaks with a trail that is not an Excel patched the night before. This is not legal advice: it is what breaks on site when the clock is in the hut and the labourer is on the job.
Why Excel does not survive the job
- Different copies on each PC and corrections with no history.
- Hours “agreed” on Friday that do not match what happened in the field.
- A wall clock that gets shared or that nobody uses.
What actually helps (without standing up an ERP)
- Clock-in on the phone, where the site is.
- A working-time ledger that does not get rewritten on a whim.
- Export (PDF/CSV) for filing, your adviser or the visit.
- The same system as the crew board: if Juan was meant to be on site A, you see it.
